About Peter W. Gretes                                                                                           Navigation

Pete's love for the great American Southwest  and landscape photography began in the late 70's when photo trips with Mike, his older brother introduced him to these beautiful landscapes. At that time Pete was working for Windsor Assembly Plant, Chrysler Canada which is widely recognized as the home of the Chrysler Minivan.

Pete had been working as a part time photographer and switched to full time during a period of time when he was laid-off from Chrysler who at the time was experiencing a period of declining sales just  prior to launch of the new minivan. He accepted many photographic assignments on his own and also freelanced for many prominent local photography studios.

He became involved with the Professional Photographers of Southwestern Ontario and began working as a member on the Executive Committee as Print Show Chairman. He later went on to be elected as President of the Southwestern Ontario Professional Photographers Association in 1980. He also won the Award Winning Photographer of the Year, South Western Ontario Branch, that same year awarded by the highest points scored over the three print competitions for the year. It was also during that same time when he worked with the local association to affiliate with the Professional Photographers of Ontario and the Professional Photographers of Canada. He served just short of two terms as president of the Windsor chapter of PPO and PPOC. He received an Award of Merit in the PPOC print competition for one print in 1980 and one in 1981. Pete also was awarded two years running 1980 and 1981, the Clifford W. Ganney  Memorial Achievement Award voted on by the local membership to the person who had worked the hardest on behalf of the association.

It was with mixed feelings that Pete returned to Chrysler when called back after nearly two years. Pete worked as a Salary employee and began again to take on positions of increasing responsibility. In 1986 he was promoted into the management position of Scheduling Supervisor in Production Control. After his return to Chrysler, Pete continued to enjoy photography but no longer worked professionally.

In 1990 Pete was promoted again to PFS Manager and tasked with implementing the Performance Feedback System. Pete continued to work over the years to introduce and launch several new corporate quality systems. Pete's responsibilities continued to grow as more systems were integrated into the production process. With these increased responsibilities and a larger staff, Pete had again been promoted to the position of Plant Systems Manager with responsibility for all the major Plant floor production quality systems.
